Beck Lee

Beck Lee

Passionate about creating, Beck Lee completed her University Visual Art degree and has continued to pursue painting ever since; in her words “I genuinely have no say in it”.

Beck’s interest as an artist lies in the emotion of a suspended moment. She works primarily with oil and acrylic paint on canvas to distort reality through light, vibrant colour and gritty brushstrokes that seem to both swallow and harmonise with her subject’s delicate details. She invites her audience to give permission to themselves to be gently present in this moment, here and now.

Her objective is to create emotion through vibrant colour with a gritty application mixed with delicate classical detail – her aim is to try and capture that moment when you are just suspended in the now.

Beck has previously exhibited throughout Brisbane and Melbourne, before the pull of the ocean calling her home became irresistible and she returned to settle in her beloved Sunshine Coast. When Beck isn’t painting in her studio she can be found surfing, horse riding and fossicking the local markets for treasures.

Surf Art Featuring Artist: Shane Christensen

Featuring Artist: Shane Christensen

Shane Christensen is a wood-carver and sculptor, based at Eumundi, who takes inspiration from his environment and nature.

Bundaberg raised wood sculptor Shane Christensen will carve a turtle in memory of Bundaberg’s Arthur ‘Nobby’ Clark at the Bundaberg Woodworkers Guild, on October 18-19.
At 38 years old he is fairly young for the stereotypical woodworker but the love he found more than twenty years ago, when he lived in Bundaberg, is something he would never lose.

His mentor was Bundaberg’s late Arthur Nobby Clark, who past away in March and was best known for his Denizens of the Deep.

“A friend of the family introduced me to Arthur Nobby Clark, to help inspire my creative nature, and learn some carving techniques,” he said. “Most of the sculptures I saw Arthur working on at the time, where of a marine life theme, his sea turtle was the most outstanding piece for me, I’ve always loved turtles.”
A couple years ago, Christensen travelled to New Caledonia to participate in a sculpture festival, with various carvers from all over the pacific.

A master carver from Vanuatu taught him different techniques of carving, including traditional markings of sea turtles.

SeaJay Art

Carlie Johnston

From Melbourne originally, I moved with my family to Mudjimba on the Sunshine Coast in 2008.

I work from my home studio and have a love of nature and art.
Since I was young, I have always explored art in some form or another.
Textiles were a favourite of mine for many years and I have made several large mosaic artworks and explored acrylic painting, but it wasn’t until 2015 that I discovered Resin.

I immediately fell in love with this fluid medium and the way the colours blend and can be manipulated with heat. The vibrancy and depth of each artwork is what keeps me wanting to create my next piece. I am particularly drawn to creating pieces to represent my love of the ocean and beach where I live. My inspiration comes from aerial photographs of the sea and my multi-layered resin pieces really do seem as though you are looking through the waves.

I wanted to make functional artworks at an affordable price so began making Cheese Platters. My resin boards differ from other resin works out there as mine are created from an artists’ way of thinking rather than a view for business. Each piece is unique, and I take great care to prepare and finish the artwork well. The bowls and plates are solid resin and made from a mould I have created. The way in which I pour and mix the colours and move the resin around with a heat gun determines the patterns in each piece. You can see some videos of how I make my art on my Facebook and Instagram pages.

Carlie’s art is inspired by the ocean and natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast. She explores a creative process using resin to provide depth and texture.  In addition to wall art, she moulds and manipulates resin to create beautiful and unique homewares.  Carlie has won awards in the Resin and Flow Art Show and was most recently awarded 1st prize in the Sculpture category in The Eclectica Art Awards Exhibition at the Cooroy Butter Factory Arts Centre.
Aerial photographs provide inspiration for her work and the uniqueness and depth will have you wondering if it is indeed a photograph!

Surf Art Featuring Artist: Fenna de King

Featuring Artist:  Fenna de King

Growing up in Fiji I spent most of my childhood surrounded by the ocean. Fast forward 20 years … 1 husband and 2 children later, I’ve blissfully stepped back into time. Who would have even imagined that an insatiable passion for longboarding would uncover a slight talent for photography. Constantly learning, all I hope to do is to replicate what I can see in front of me .. the undeniable beauty of the ocean & all who are in it, radiant in all it’s colours and textures. This is my happy place.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions in regards to purchasing any images, organising a photo shoot or just saying hello !!
