Angela van Boxtel

Angela van Boxtel

Angela van Boxtel is a Dutch, (Noosa based) Eco Artist & Designer cleverly reusing waste materials and transforming them into sculptures, fashion, design & art pieces. Mostly focusing around the issue of plastic pollution in our oceans.

She has crocheted over 10.000 plastic bags into her work. Her ‘Teeny Greeny Plastic Bag Bikini’ has been acquired by the Manly Art Gallery & Museum historic fashion collection.

Her work opens up discussions about our environment and our behaviors within. She also creatively transforms broken surfboards into art pieces; her colorful surf chalkboards have been featured at many art, cultural, environmental & surf events.

Surfboards are made of Styrofoam – once broken they end up in landfill. We can enjoy the ocean but have a responsibility towards it. Away is not away, let’s talk, let’s care, let’s leave a legacy of a responsible surfing culture.

Van Boxtel is the founder of Waste to Design – encouraging our businesses and communities to rethink waste as a resource and creating a future of a circular economy.

Tim Noles

I have always felt drawn to the creative arts from an early school age, as it allows me to reflect on and define my emotions, my thoughts and my passions. This passion flourished 17 years ago while travelling Australia where I saw so many diverse and ever-changing landscapes, coastlines and people.

I spent the last 10 years working throughout the Kimberley, Regional SA and NT giving a helping hand to Aboriginal people on the land of beauty and such indigenous history and this allowed me the time to absorb this dynamic environment and understand the encroaching nature. This has inspired the creation of art pieces that express my very personal beliefs and emotions, whether seascapes, landscapes or the people of Australia I am sharing something very personal through my work.

“I now live on the beautiful and scenic Sunshine Coast, an area which has provided me with so much creativity and a never-ending thirst for life. A place of ever-changing landscapes, from the roaring ocean to the peaceful hinterland.  With a soul full of passion for creating, I now see life in everything. My dream, my hope, my goal is to show this to you whether it be an original piece or a limited edition print on a number of different media, to be a constant reminder that sits in your living room, boardroom and other public spaces revealing to you the beauty outside and each piece of art also has a written story that goes with it, so you can therefore enjoy and dream of the wonders, of the soul of this living land whether or whether not you have visit the particular areas.

Creating, carving and designing unique: One of a kind Glass and Wood
Sculptures..

All pieces are inspired by the natural colours, shapes and textures found in the beauty of the sea. I select unique wood colours with patterned grain features and incorporate the natural live edges of the timber for a individual and unique design, then integrate a splash of colour by hand cutting each individual piece of glass to add to my designs reflecting the connection with the sea.

Lizzie Connor

Lizzie Connor

I am a  professional Artist and Art Tutor with approximately 30 years experience as both.

Originally from Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, I have lived in many places around Australia and I now live at Mudjimba Beach, on the Sunshine Coast. I have won many awards in South East Queensland, and to date have held approximately 24 solo exhibitions and a number of joint exhibitions.

My art tutoring has taken me to many places including the Greek Islands, Norfolk Island and a regular annual week of drawing and painting in Fiji, as well as working and completing residencies interstate.

My works are created from the natural world and particularly the ocean and beach environment where I have spent all my life, and I have spent many years creating methods that now have become instinct. Different trends come and go, and I hope my work will stand the test of time and remain as relevant to it’s source as the day it was created.

Garry Birdsall

Garry Birdsall

Garry Birdsall, was born in Sydney where surfing is a national pastime. He spent all of his leisure time as a youth on the beaches of Sydney.

He was one of the pioneers of Malibu surfboard riding and has participated in numerous Australian and world surfing events. He was the first artist in Australia to do airbrushed paintings on surfboards. Today Garry paints in his Sydney studio. He uses a variety of mixed media but favours the technique used in Noosa Festival which is a combination of opaque and translucent watercolours.

Noosa Heads National Park After a Cyclone 1964

From the Surfing in the 1960s Series by Garry Birdsall

In the 1960’s most of Queensland was still a wild frontier of bush, beaches and dirt roads. With the coming of mass car ownership most people could now access the areas beyond their towns and many headed for Noosa’s surf beaches.

In 1964 a series of tropical cyclones flooded these ancient lands as wind, rain and storm surges beat down on the coastline, wreaking havoc and massive destruction. As the cyclones diminished everyone breathed sighs of relief that the worst was over. But the cyclones aftermath offered a silver lining to surfers, epic storm swells pumping in to Noosa Heads National Park.

This amazing surfing utopia is captured in my painting. I was lucky enough to have surfed Noosa National Park back then. But this particular painting was inspired by my mate, Mal Sutherland’s classic photograph taken at Noosa National Park after a cyclone back in 1964.    Contact photographer: msut@bigpond.com
